When you think of a "festival", you generally think of an event where adults or young people gather to hear music, dine, and perhaps shop. Ironically, it always seems as if the small Kids Tent, seemingly an after thought, is packed to the brim with excited children.
This summer's Karavan of Kids Fun Fest will take the "typical" festival format and turn it upside down!
Sponsored by Newton Memorial Hospital and GBW Insurance in cooperation with Joe Hirsh Productions, the Karavan of Kids has scheduled dates for July 24 at the Sussex Skyhawks baseball stadium in Augusta, Aug. 28 at Vasa Park in Mount Olive and on Oct. 9 at Wild West City in Byram Township, all from 12 noon to 5 p.m. While the overall "fun package" is the same at each venue, each will have its own theme. The July 24 date for example also includes a baseball game, the Vasa Park date will have a Scandinavian flavor to it, and at Wild West City there will be the old west aspect.
Unlike typical festivals for adults, this age-focused event will have activities and entertainment specifically geared to the 3-12 year-old crowd, allowing families to experience festival fun together in an exciting setting that invites participatory aspects that everyone can enjoy.
A day at the Karavan of Kids Fun Fest 2010 will also include an Amazing Art Project that helps children "realize their dreams", a Hula Hoop Extravaganza, nature and science activities, incredible vendors and much more.
There will be special appearances by Rusty, the Great-Great Grandson of Lassie, and the Husky Haven Race Team.
The "Main Stage" will present a musical act, theater production, and dance performances, with audience participation encouraged.
The vendor area will be kid focused and include toys, books, face painting, balloon art, sand art and other cool stuff for families to check out.
